MPSP Alumni Interview with Kim Lammers
Almost five years of research on "Polarization control in femtosecond-laser directly written waveguides" finally paid off for former MPSP PhD candidate Kim Lammers: At the beginning of 2022, she defended her thesis with top marks! We caught up with her the very next day for an interview to find out more about what this feels like and what tips she has for those at the beginning of their dissertation.
In the interview, Kim spilled the beans and especially encouraged young women to pursue a career in Photonics - because, so she says, the fact that women are so underrepresented in our field is largely due to false stereotypes. Girls are exposed to less science-related content in childhood than boys - and the stereotype of "the scientist" is still the lonely researcher in the ivory tower. Yet research is one thing above all: teamwork!
